I was far more impressed with Winner last season than I expected to be.

For me Vertongen is good when things are going well, and generally good on the ball. However he isn't great at defending and, worse, at the first sign of trouble his head is down and he doesn't have the sort of leadership / fight I like to see.

So in a difficult run where we need character etc in the team, I would take Wimmer over him now.

I'd lean towards Wimmer at the moment based on the limited evidence we have but we didn't see him play without Dembo and Alli in the team so it's hard to know if he'd have fared any better than Jan when the chips were down. The fact Wimmer is only 23 means that if his few games covering for Jan are anything to go by he's an incredibly astute purchase.

I think wimmer has the edge with more to come.

And he's technically our outfield representative for chats with the ref.

He was looking frustrated from first minute. Maybe because he was playing LB??
In 2nd half he was chitchatting with origi, who was still sub, and that didn't looked really friendly.

I think we should start easing Wimmer into the starting 11 in the new season, Jans good but he's a bit of a sulker and he's getting on anyway

f***ing internationals. Ban them.

Probably going to sign another CB now. Or keep Fazio :hide:

We still have faz?

8 Weeks Sky sports is saying, which is the beginning of the season. Have Wimmer/Dier at the back, Wanyama can ply for Dier, so not the end of the world. Alders is better anyway!

Someone said 4 months!

Some people don't recover from Ankle and Knee problems :hide: or aren't the same after.

I'm delighted to have complete faith in Wimmer, but another CB or a bleed through for CVC is looking likely.

A blow, but not as bad as it could have been had we not got Wanyama as he frees Dier potentially to go into the back four if Wimmer or Alderweireld get injuries.

We also have Ball and CCV don't we?

Jan didn't look to distressed sitting out with Dembo while watching Wales rip their team-mates apart. I reckon it's closer to 2 months than the reported 4.

just a thought. Davies has been playing at LCB for Wales, albeit in a quite different formation, but he's done brilliantly there.

Between Dier, Davies, Wimmer, CCV, Ball there's quite a few options so even with Jan's injury it might be unnecessary to buy a Fazio replacement.
