Brilliant jockey, could sense everything in a horse, its as though he passed magic through the reins, horses just acted for him. Great judgement, I truly remember his 81 Derby win on Shergar, always looked so young, backed him on many occasions. so sad and only 55. condolences to family. a true gent gone to a bigger stable now.

Came from a great era of racehorse,s ! i remember the great shergar , green desert and one of my favourite milers...............zilzal.
Really well spoken gentleman ! loved his tv appraisal,s ! really professional !
I come from a racing family and although i havent followed the horse,s since 2000 walters death reminds me of all those saturdays afternoons having a go at the itv 7.

met him once and he told me to jockingly to back willie carsoon on a horse so I put 5.00 e/w got 2nd at 66/1, this was said at the start of an evening race at beverley, when someone shouted out are you going to win walter? he just Na back willie, smiled and went in the stalls he (wally won the race). :niceone:
