I'm extremely excited about him but my word of caution would be "Caulker"

Great comparison....Id also say CCV looked a world beater at one point and now Im not even sure he has a future at the club

People always blame individual players for this but it is the fault of the manager. E.g. The way KWP was treated was unfair imo in terms of on the pitch football development.

If the club was outside the top four already and had a youth progressive manager then all of them would have a future.

Ill raise you to Guy Butters. Late 80s, marked out by many to be a great prospect, England U21. Alas, not with us, although he had a 500+ appearance career.

CCV always had the issue of not being mobile enough for a modern CB to me. Caulker looked the real deal, many wanted us to build our defence around him at the time of him breaking through. AVB playing Daws over him was grounds for him to be fired if you asked a lot of fans... I myself thought he could be the next Ledley after some brilliant early showings. He ended up forcing a move for more game time and helping two clubs get relegated, now at 28 plays for a 2nd rate Turkish team.

I'm super excited by Tanganga. Sounds like Jose was extremely impressed too. Let's hope he builds on this promise and becomes a top CB for us for years to come. About time we got a new star from the academy.

Jose shot down the idea his contract ran out in the summer in his presser by saying that was wrong and he wouldn't have played him if his contract ran out in the summer

It's tiered to go up each season he meets appearance quotas. Much like Dele's and Kane's salaries went up every 6 months I suspect his will do the same.

Yes, but will it also be tiered to plateau, deteriorate and/or end up forcing a move to Inter Milan? Lol..

Eriksen's wasn't with us from youth so completely different.

There's talk Tanganga may sack his agent to get this over the line. Slightly different scenario to the late Dane

I get it. He is good but I'm not convinced he has the quality of Kane. Could easily be the next Townsend, as an example. In which case it doesn't always make sense to give them too much before they make it and struggle to keep/sell and so on.

He is in the right position though which helps.

Reward and incentive, what is the alternative ? Don't pay him and he leaves ?

He's only signing a new deal because he has been given first team action. He'd leave for nothing if he didn't get games and wasn't paid for that.

If he signs a deal while sitting watching, he's KWP. Killed without Playing.

Pay him to much and he may lose focus.

Dichotomy of leadership.

In general we have been poor at keeping our young players and star players motivated.

Have you predicted Kane becoming such a great player? I think most of the fans were thinking of him as he could easily be another average Joe fro teh academy and look where he is now. Tanganga has shown huge promise and has to be given chances to play and develop.

Nope. Kane couldn't hit a barn door at Norwich and the likes of Cameron Lancaster looked better when he came on for Harry Redknapp.

That said, people in the club still said Kane was the best finisher in training.

Tanganga has shown a bit but so did KWP.

In general our youth development was better under Sherwood than it is right now.

In general youth development is easier when competing off the pace. United and Chavs are developing more now they are off the top of the pile.
