With Mourinho coming in, width takes on a new priority.

Who replaces Son and Lucas if injured? Sessegnon? Jack Clarke recall?

Who replaces Kane if injured?

Who do we bring in for defensive midfield / defence?

DEFINITE OUTS in my opinion:

Aurier - I know some seem to rate him but for me he will always be a headless chicken and walking red card/pen

Eriksen - I hate to say it because he’s had a fantastic time at the club but it’s just time to go.

Wanyama - useless

Sissoko - has shown flashes of brilliant (especially on route to the CL final) but would never be part of a PL winning squad as his end product is so so dreadful

Rose - would just rather see Davies/Sess battle it out for LB, Danny’s whinging gets on my nerves and he’s lost a yard of pace

INS that I would like to see:

Young pacey RB, maybe Max Aaron’s at Norwich

Kalvin Phillips DM from Leeds

Dybala/Bale type AM - someone to replace the creativity of Eriksen. This player COULD be Lo Celso but I’ve not seen enough of him yet

This would leave our squad something like:

Lloris
Aaron’s Toby Sanchez Sess
Phillips Dombley
Dybala Dele Son
Kane

Gazza Parrot Davies Foyth Lo Celso Winks Moura

Have a feeling Sess won't be played at LB. Might be wrong, but Davies is more Mourinho style. We know he used to be a fan of Rose, so might keep him.

We had 3 definitive targets for the window when Poch was in charge. Wonder if we'll stick to them.

We know Fernandes was one, we also know Mourinho likes him... But I suspect he may prioritise defensive areas as that's where we've been weakest.

Is Fernandes' new ocntract a way of ensuring a bigger price or has the ship sailed?

It's very revealing that there's no extension on his contract, just an increase in salary and a higher buy out clause.

As they rejected our offer that met the previous buy out there was some weird loophole where they were allowed to do that but he was guaranteed a bonus and a pay rise... My guess? This contract is that bonus contract.

That said I don't know if we'd actually go back in for him for the money they'll want. Attacking midfield is probably our strongest area. Maybe if we send GLC back somehow and/or ship out Sissoko we'd move for him but otherwise I think
Dele, Son and Lucas look like our starting 3 AMs and Jose doesn't rotate much so GLC, Sissoko, Lamela and possibly Eriksen til end of the season is already too many players for those positions. I don't think he's going to play Sissoko in the pivot from what we've seen so far. GLC might compete with Winks at CM but a lot of people saying he should be playing Lucas position under Jose.

We are being linked with a few 17 yr olds from lower league clubs. Hope we are serious with this line of recruitment, it's an area we have done well in over the last decade or more.

I suppose worst case scenario is that we don't make top four so don't buy Lo Celso and Eriksen, Jan and Toby leave. Leaves us with no cover in the centre of defence unless you move Dier back there:

Hugo Lloris Paulo Gazzaniga Alfie Whiteman
Serge Aurier Kyle Walker-Peters
Davinson Sanchez
Juan Foyth
Ben Davies Danny Rose
Eric Dier Harry Winks
Tanguy Ndomebele Victor Wanyama Oliver Skipp
Lucas Moura Moussa Sissoko
Dele Alli Erik Lamela
Heung-Min Son Ryan Sessegnon
Harry Kane

I know a few aren't impressed with Toby's form but of the three potential leavers he's the one we would miss the most. Eriksen was and could still be class but we have a lot going forward

If we are SERIOUS about winning the CL this season, and I believe Mourinho definitely will be, surely we must be buying players in January who are NOT cup-tied in this competition?

It will be interesting to see whether Levy backs Mourinho in the January window and to what extent. Mourinho will have visions of winning the CL for a third time. His last CL win was back in 2010, although he did get the Europa for United back in 2017, so he's well versed in European battles.

Mourinho will not lack ambition for this trophy but whether Levy will share it is quite another question.

Players aren't cup tied this season. Can register new players in Jan.

You can only be cup tied once they've played a knock out match. Which don't start til window is closed.

What ever happens three of our four attacking spots seem sorted by Jose. Dele, Son and Kane. That leaves Lamela, Eriksen, Moura and possibly Sess and Sissoko battling for the other spot. Even if we lose Eriksen and Lamela stays injured we have 6 fighting for four spots.

For the middle two we have plenty too: Dier, Lo Celso, Winks, Sissoko, Ndomebele, Skipp, Wanyama. Okay the latter is injured but still plenty of over number wise. End of season could see Wanyama ad Lo Celso let go but that still leaves us with plenty.

Defence is a worry, not quite the quality or quantity if Jan and Toby go. Can KWP, Foyth and Sess step up to the mark and is there much left in the tank for Danny?

Lots of ru,ours about Ben Godfrey, who can play defence or defensive midfield. Look at his interview,on YouTube and he describes himself as a midfielder. Might be a good addition there.

New right back please with ndombele and a dier or lo celso combo in the middle. Sissoko has scored his bi annual goal so we can't expect anymore from him this season

We should bypass the smaller (but bigger team they go to) a la VVD

But we should be in hard for Ajer and Edouard at Celtic. He’s an ideal foil for Kane.

And more importantly, that Ajer, at 19-20 was an absolute leader of men today against Rangers. Excellent hard no nonsense ball playing CB with 13+ years mileage in him.

Aware CDM, RB, LB and wingers are priority areas too. Chuck a keeper in there

Until Jose took over, one of the positives, if not the only one of the season, was Tanguy. I'm still astounded how we got him and for some to write him off is baffling.

Going forward, Eriksen quite rightly should be on the bench whereas Lo Celso might not get the time. Toby and/ or Jan need to sign a new contract if they are offered or we have to go in big for a cb. Surely we won't get Koulibaly as reported? Whilst we have alternatives to Eriksen we haven't got such luxuries at centre back

In my mind the most obvious weaknesses are in the defence. The fact that Toby and vertonghen are potentially leaving means it should be urgently looked into. So a LB, RB and CB or two please 😂

We have work to do in summer!

I wouldn’t say this window is the most important window in decades..

In hindsight that was the summer we did nothing. Or possibly the Saha Nelsen Jan window.

Bit off topic but yeah, I remember wanting to snap up some young kid called Mandzukic to get us over the line for 3rd and push for 1st in the league.

What a terrible signing that would have been..

Incidentally I didn't have the same hate for Saha as other fans did.

Nelson and Pienaar were a complete waste. Convinced one was for Sandra, and one was for South African relations.
