I just wondered if there is any one on here that does any running (not on a football field)what are your distances, and how often? What does running do for you as an individual?

I gave up smoking ages ago and took up running !

Started off with just 1-2 miles per day at a gentle jog and over the weeks built it up to 5-6 miles per day at a decent pace.........last 100 yards of the run i would sprint.

Added a training regime of press ups, stretches etc etc.

Got up to 100 press ups per session.

We have a really steep hill that leads up to a castle ruin and i always liked to tackle that and once the endorphins had kicked it - it was a fantastic feeling.

What did it do for me ?

I was mega fit ! at 30 i was fitter than i was as a young kid.

It gives you confidence and when as fit as i was you dont take s*** from people.

By that i dont mean you go round slapping people for no reason ! i mean if some prat threatens to thump you - you invite them to do so.

Usually they would say loosen up = as they were only joking.

Yeah right !

But overall its a great feeling to be super fit & i would recommend it to anyone.

You can add stuff like shadow boxing / punch bag training.

I used to love punch bag training with an orchestral manoeuvres in the dark tape playing in the back ground.

Yes it was back in the 1980s......! joan of arc and all that stuff.....lol

i was always at the gym 3 times a wek till the chinese virus, but now have not been at all, so thats why I took back to running at least its doing my cardio and overall fitness good. I can once into my stride just plod on for ever. Run 13 marathons in my time, now my running distance is about 1.5 marathons a month. I,m happy with that.

I wanted to do a marathon but never got round to it ! but i did do a very long charity walk for the whales and won that by miles.

I walked as fast as i could but i would rather have run.

I tried gym stuff in the 1990s and didnt like it really !

You can do a lot of stuff at home like press ups.

I remember when i first started press ups i got to 7 or 8 and then collapsed but within a couple of months i hit the 100.

Its also a measure of how fit you are becoming.

I had a book which was full of exercises you could do at home but i lost it and cant remember the title.

Exercising at home can get a bit boring so i usually play music or get an audio book / cd.

I like Terry Pratchett disc world stuff but some agatha christie plays are good also.

Well audio books are good if you start finding your training regime boring ! listen ! get into the story line and keep exercising.

Agatha Christie,Terry Pratchett,Dick Francis have loads of books on cd read to you.

Music wise Enya i can recommend while running or training! any of her albums are very good.

For different types of exercising i find books based on western fighting techniques contain beneficial exercise regimes.

As i said i tend to find doing the same gym stuff over and over again gets a bit tedious so i change them now and again.

I like Enya, but i have such a varied musical taste. Hate all Jazz and wrap, what a load of b0**ocks that is, but i respect that there are loads that like it.My favourite music is from the 60,s era, sheer magical for me.

60s is iconic.

Love the psychedelic era .

Brilliant.

You can play all your favourite songs while training but nothing like running across lands while passing trees and crunching autumn leaves underneath your feet.

I know what you are saying, totally agree just you and the land/ or the sea against a sea wall, and stones rolling as the water goes out, magical.

Used to run through a wooded area and one day it was blowing a gale.

Ran under a sycamore tree and these little helicopter type seeds were spiraling down all around me.

Yep magical.

With the winds in your hair and just you and the elements.
