Ok back on the league trail, after a heart breaking penalty shoot out loss against PSV in the UEFA Cup, Oh well we will have it next near. Right to the business in hand and an away trip to Manchester City.
City were formed in 1887, changing their name from Ardwick FC in 1894. They have had five previous grounds before “Maine Road” they were Clowes St 1880-1881, Kirkmanshulme Cricket Ground from 1881-1882, then Queens Rd 1882-1884, then Pink Bank Lane 1884-1897, then Hyde Rd 1897-1923.
We have already met on two occassions this season, firstly when we were away to them in the Carling Cup where we won 2-0, then we entertained them at “The Lane” on 9th December 2007 where we also won by a score line of 2-1, our scorers on that day were the opener going to Pascal Chimbonda, and the second to Jermain Defoe.
A victory here will put us only 2 points behind the hammers ( if they loose), with a game in hand, so once we pass them we can hopefully use our remaining games to get a higher position in the table. I feel that the type of football that we are now playing is an obvious improvement from the previous regime, and I honestly feel if we can play the same type of game against city like we did against PSV, we will control the game, and go on for a win, we also have a game in hand of city, so really we have a glorious opportunity to make some headway.
I don’t know if any key players will be rested for this game like Ledley, or any others, but what ever starting line Im sure we will have the fire power to go ahead and control things. I feel that there is still one thing missing in our game and that we are not actually turning our chances in to goals, we MUST make our chances count and convert them. I take us to win 2-0 or 3-1, but would be happier with a bigger score for us with a clean sheet.

Man City have been slowly falling off the pace of the Premiership for a while now, so I think we stand a really good chance of taking all three points from this lane providing players such as berbatov, huddlestone and co are not tired after playing through extra time and penalties on Wednesday night. |
